Hyderabad Metro Rail likely to run faster

Hyderabad: By raising its speed by 4 kmph, Hyderabad Metro Rail trains are likely to speed up in the next couple of months. Currently, they run at an average speed of about 35 kmph, which is going to be 39 kmph after November.

Aiming at reducing the time frame for reaching respective destinations across the two corridors and ensuring precise frequency in timings, metro rail authorities took the proposal to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for statutory clearances.

The Hindu quoted HMR managing director N.V.S. Reddy as saying, “Once we get the statutory permissions, we can run trains with increased speeds and better efficiency to handle the increased patronage. Actually, we were not expecting this kind of rush for another year or so.”

Presently the metro rail plies three-coach trains but there’s a plan to introduce six-coach trains.
