Hyderabad: MRO Lavanya, husband produced in ACB court

Hyderabad: Tahsildar and MRO V Lavanya, who was under suspension following a bribery case, was arrested and produced in court by ACB in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Her husband, N Venkateswara Naik, is in judicial custody for demanding and accepting bribes for providing jobs to people on outsourcing basis.

The disproportionate assets case was registered against Nunavath Venkateshwara Naik, superintendent of RDMA (Regional Director Municipal Administration), Hyderabad and his wife Lavanya at Keshampet mandal in Rangareddy district on September 19.

On Tuesday, further searches were conducted at the houses of benamis, B Nagamani at Hayathnagar and V Hussain Naik in Suryapet district. Searches revealed that Naik and Lavanya had amassed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income to the tune of Rs1,33,35,012, ACB officials said.

In August, ACB took Lavanya, MRO of Keshampet mandal, into custody and recovered Rs 93.5 lakh in cash and 420 gm gold from her residence at Hayathnagar in Hyderabad.

Naik was arrested after he demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 2.50 lakh from complainant Vangala Randheer to appoint him in the office of RDMA in Hyderabad.

Naik demanded a further Rs 40,000 bribe from him continue his job with regular pay with ESI and EPF facilities by influencing superior officers.
