Prof. Khasim of Osmania University held in 3-yr-old case

Hyderabad: In a shocking development, Osmania University Professor Ch Khasim was arrested on Saturday in a three-year-old case of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

According to reports, a team of Mulugu police station of Siddipet commissionerate arrived at Khasim’s official residence at the varsity campus with a search warrant issued by the court, TOI reports.

“We have served the court warrant and carried out a search at the house of professor Khasim. We have seized incriminating evidence including some electronic evidence. Khasim was arrested,” said Siddipet commissioner Joel Davis said.

Back in the year 2016, Shyam Sundar of Adilabad was arrested by Mulugu police in a hit and run case where the victim had died on the spot.

“Shyam Sundar abandoned the car and fled from the scene. When police searched the vehicle they found incriminating evidence including correspondence between professor Khasim and Maoist party leadership, inside the vehicle. Shyam Sundar was working as. Maoist party courier and we have arrested him,” the commissioner said.

According to police, Mr Khasim is also an accused in the case. “During the course of time, we have gathered more evidence against professor Khasim about his involvement with the Maoist party. Based on the evidence, we obtained a search warrant,” the commissioner said.

Speaking of the police raid at Professor Khasim’s house, wife Snehalata said that police forcibly entered into their house early in the morning.

“They broke the rear door open and entered the house. Ransacked the house. Seized books in the house including the books written by him. They served a notice and arrested him in a case booked in 2016 January. My husband has been arrested for talking and creating awareness about the disparity in the society, caste discrimination and unemployment in Telangana. I appeal to the government to close the case and release him immediately,” Snehalata said.
