Hyderabad: Peacock Day Celebrations were organized in KBR National Park involving about 1050 students from 15 schools located around KBR National Park on Tuesday.
On 3rd December 1998 central government declared KBR as National park. Due to more number of peacocks in the 350 acres of park, every year this day Celebrated as
Peacock festival by forest department
Drawing, Quiz and Skit competitions were organized for the students. The events were volunteered by 30 FCRI students and (2) of their faculty members and also volunteers from WWI and Deccan Birders. The celebrations were more of info entertainment with the snake show by friends of snake society and cultural programmes by Delhi World Public school, Bheeramguda.
Rajeshwar Tiwari, Spl. Chief Secretary, EFS & T, Government of Telangana, while addressing the gathering stressed the need of protection of forests and its biodiversity and also national bird Peacock, principal species of the park, quoting the examples from epics.
R. Sobha, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Telangana while addressing the gathering said that it is the children who should be taught and sensitized sufficiently to protect the environment for the cause of their very survival, as the present elder generation recklessly spoiled it.
Dr. G. Chandrashekar Reddy, APCCF Hyderabad while appreciating the performance of students, requested the teachers to teach the importance of environment apart from academics for the cause of sustainable society. Sri Shankaran, OSD (Wildlife) acted as Judge and finalized the prize winners in various competitions who were given the prizes by the dignitaries present.
