Hyderabad: Two held for illegal supply of cigarettes

Hyderabad: The sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, along with Shahinayathgunj police on Thursday raided Ratan Plaza Building at Begum Bazar and apprehended two persons for illegally selling and supplying foreign cigarettes of various brands.

The accused has been identified as Vikas Kumar (20) and Kalaram Mali (32) both of them are the residents of Chaknawadi in Goshamahal.

According to police officials, the accused Vikas Kumar and Kalaram Mali alias Kailash are cousins and native of Badmer Dist, Rajasthan State.  In 2016 they migrated to Hyderabad for business purposes.

Later, they both started selling Chalias (Betel), sweets masalas and paan shop products at begum bazaar. But they couldn’t gain expected profits.

Subsequently, they hatched a plan to sale foreign cigarettes to earn money. As per their plan in the month of September 2019, they started purchasing foreign cigarettes from Delhi and supplying in and around the Hyderabad city through public and private transport.

With their influence and reputation in the market, they acquired needy customers and illegally supplying cigarettes which don’t have caution Hazardous like ‘cigarette smoking may be hazardous to your health, its nicotine and tar contents on the cigarette packs’ and making a profit out of it.

On credible information, the South Zone Task Force Team apprehended the accused persons and seized foreign cigarettes of various brands, all worth about Rs. 12 Lakhs, from their possession. The arrested accused person along with seized material was handed over to SHO, Shahinayathgunj police station for further investigation.
