Indian arrested in UAE after wife’s video goes viral

DUBAI: The police in United Arab Emirates (UAE) detained a 47-year-old man from India after his wife posted a video online alleging domestic abuse.

In a desperate plea for help, the 33-year-old Jasmine Sultana with a heavily swollen and bleeding eye tweeted a 10-second short video on Tuesday claiming to be a victim of ongoing domestic abuse.

“Required urgent help. My name Jasmine Sultan I live in UAE Sharjah my husband name is Mohammad Khizar Ulla…I have assaulted badly by husband …I want help.”

Soon, the video went viral and has got more than 90,000 retweets and people, tagging UAE law enforcement agencies, Indian missions and the governments, the Khaleej Times reported.

The Sharjah police on their Twitter account confirmed that they have responded to Jasmine’s plea.

The Indian Consulate in UAE too issued a tweet in response to the Jasmine’s plea.

The Sharjah Police swung into action and detained the man for questioning.

Speaking to Khaleej Times over the phone, Sultana said that she relieved that her husband is in police custody since she suffered abuse, humiliation and violence all these years.

“He (Khizar) assaulted me violently on Sunday night. He punched more on my eyes, twisted my hands backwards, and hit me on my ribs, on my neck and my head. I thought I would die,” the mother of two from Bengaluru, said.

Jasmeen had married Khizar Ulla in 2013 and the couple were blessed with two boys aged five years and 17 months.
