International Conference on South Asian Narratives at MANUU

Hyderabad: The XIV Biennial International Conference of Comparative Literature Association of India (CLAI) on “Studying South Asian Narratives through Pluralist and Dialogic Frames” is being organized in collaboration with the Department of English, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) from March 11 to 14, . The conference is sponsored by University Grants Commission and Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.

The inaugural session will be held at CPDUMT auditorium, MANUU Campus, at 10.00 am. Prof. Sunaina Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Nalanda University will be the guest of honour of the inaugural. Prof. E.V. Ramakrishnan, President, CLAI will deliver inaugural address. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor will preside over.
According to Prof. Syed Mohammed Haseebuddin Quadri, Head of the Department, renowned scholars and critics, Prof. Rebecca Ruth Gould (University of Birmingham, UK), Daya Dissanayake (Sri Lankan Critic, Thinker, Editor), Prof Mashrur Shahid Hossain (Bangladesh), Prof. R. K.Kale (Former VC, Central University of Gujarat). Prof. Kavita Sharma (President, South Asian University), Prof. Intekhab Hameed Khan (Aurangabad), Prof. G. N. Devy (People’s Linguistic Survey of India), Prof. Tapati Mukherjee (Director of Culture, Visva-Bharati), Prof. Anisur Rahman, Prof. Ameena Kazi Ansari and Prof. Chandra Mohan, General Secretary CLAI shall be attending the conference.
Large number of delegates from all over India will participate.

Social Media a Potential Challenge for Corporate Media: Experts
A three day workshop on “Usages of Social Media Tools for Future Media” ended on March 7 with leading experts from the field of journalism describing it as a potential challenge to the conventional and corporate media. However, they advised caution in usage of information received from the sources. If used judiciously, will be helpful in becoming a good journalist, they opined.

The workshop was organized by the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU).
Famous Television journalist Shams Tahir Khan (Aaj Tak) addressed the valedictory as the chief guest. Referring to the widespread discontent about the deteriorating media standards specially with regard to television channels, he asked the audience, who is responsible for this? If you don’t like any channel you should not view it, he suggested. Otherwise you are supporting the deterioration. Mere complaining is a sign of weakness, he remarked.
Satish Jacob, Senior Broadcast Journalist in his presidential remarks regarded social media and its numerous application as a treasure house of information. This will indeed help the budding journalists, he said.

Pankaj Pachori, Editor Go News, the media partner of the workshop revealed that same module
which was used during a workshop in Harvard University was provided to MANUU students. He expressed satisfaction over the level of involvement and participation by the students. Mr. Mohammed Azam Shahid (Bengaluru) remarked that journalists with proper understanding of ethics are badly needed in today’s media world. Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, Bhopal dismissed the effectiveness of social media and questioned its credibility. Mr. Amir Haque, Resident Editor, Times Now (Lucknow) advised the students to focus on optimum utilization of the resourses at available at University. He described social media as a future challange to corporate media. Mr. Khaled Shahbaz and Ms. Sadhika Tiwari also spoke. Earlier, Mr. Ehtesham Ahmed Khan, HoD and Dean welcomed the Guest and presented a report on the workshop. Mr. Tahir Qureshi, Asst. Professor, conducted the proceedings and proposed vote of thanks.
