IPS officer Abdur Rahman resigns in protest against CAB

Mumbai: IPS officer of Maharashtra, Mr. Abdur Rahman resigned in protest against Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019.

As per the sources, he was posted as IGP in Mumbai. Protesting against the bill, he tweeted, “The #CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019 is against the basic feature of the Constitution. I condemn this Bill. In civil disobedience I have decided not attend office from tomorrow. I am finally quitting the service”.

Earlier, 1047 scientists and scholars signed a petition demanding the withdrawal of the bill.

Rajya Sabha passes bill

It may be mentioned that the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the bill which seeks to give citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

The Lok Sabha has already passed the Bill.

The Bill had been tabled in the Rajya Sabha by Home Minister Amit Shah earlier in the day.
