JNU student house raided for rebellious speech

Jehanabad (UP):  The police raided the house of anti-CAA activist Sharjeel Imam, who has been charged for an alleged seditious speech at Shaheen Bagh, New Delhi.

In his speech at Shaheen Bagh he has reportedly incited people to cut off Assam from the rest of India for at least two-three months.

He has reportedly said that if about five lakh people were mobilized it would be possible to “permanently cut off Assam with the rest of India…”

Imam is a research scholar at JNU. He was not found at his home at the time of raid.  His two relatives and a driver were arrested and later released after interrogation. The raid was conducted by a joint police team of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. An FIR has been filed under against him under sections 124A, 153A and 505.

According to police sources Imam could be seen making anti-national statements on 16 January at Muslim Aligarh University (AMU) in a video.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday lashed out at JNU student Sharjeel Imam’s statement and suggested that those supporting Shaheen Bagh protesters should be ashamed of themselves.

AMIM chief, Asaduddin Owaisi reacted on Imam’s speech and said “No one can break India or any region. India is a nation and not a chicken’s neck that can be separated or broken. I do not accept such statements. I condemn it.”
