Kashmir issue: Hurriyat chairman stresses on political talks

New Delhi: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of Hurriyat Conference supports talks at a political level rather than dialogue at Diplomatic level.

According to the report published in Hindustan Times, he prefers dialogue at Home Minister and Prime Minister level.

Commenting on separatists’ reluctance to have a dialogue with Dineshwar Sharma, the interlocutor appointed by the Central Government, Mirwaiz said that political talks would be meaningful.

Recalling the way Mr. Vajpayee tried to handle the issue, Mirwaiz said that his government had several rounds of talks with the Hurriyat Conference in 2004.

Although Mr. Sharma made attempts to meet Hurriyat leaders, he managed to meet only one leader, Abdul Ghani Bhat.

Last week, J&K Governor, Mr. Satya Pal Malik disclosed that Hurriyat leaders are willing to involve in the dialogue process.
