Delhi: Father killed for objecting daughter’s harassment

NEW DELHI: A 51-year-old businessman was murdered by some unidentified men after he objected to some of them making lewd gestures at his 22-year-old daughter.

The shocking incident took place in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar in the early hours of Sunday when the murdered businessman identified as Dhruv Raj Tyagi alias Raju Tyagi and his 22-year-old daughter were returning from a hospital, according to police said.

When the girl’s father and her brother Anmol Tyagi went back to resolve the matter they were allegedly stabbed by the abusers.

Tyagi’s 19-year-old son was also received stabbed injuries in the attack and is critical. He continues to battle for his life and remains critical at a private city hospital.

Tyagi’s brother told ANI, “My brother and his daughter were returning from the hospital. The lane was almost blocked by 4-5 men. When he honked at them, they made lewd remarks and tried to molest her. After dropping her home, he went back to them, they attacked him. Their families helped them in the attack. My nephew was also stabbed and is admitted to the hospital.”

The 51-year-old father received three deep wounds and died on Monday morning after battling for his life.

A resident of Basai Darapur, Tyagi live with his wife, daughter and son.

According to Times Of India, a 30-year-old property dealer Riyaz Ahmed, who was an eyewitness to the gruesome murder, said he made attempts to save the father-son duo but the accused continue to brutalize them.

“Even when I and a few others managed to pull the two away, the brutalising did not stop,” he said. “I put them on my scooter and rode towards the hospital, but one of the sons intercepted me and dragged Dhruv uncle down. He was bleeding profusely, but he kept hitting him with stones.”

Ahmed narrated that he was narrated that hear the loud cries of Tyagi’s daughter and was the first to intervened. “One of Jehangir’s three sons was holding the woman by her hair, while another appeared readying to hit her with a stone. I rushed out and pulled one of the youths away,” Ahmed said, adding that the accused and his family members then started attacking even him.

It was also reported that the women in the accused family then brought knives to the men and then they started stabbing Tyagi.

Police have arrested four accused in this case identified as–Jahangir Khan (45), Mohammad Alam (20), Aliaas and Raja. While Jahangir is the father, the three others are his son.

To prevent escalation of tensions, a large number of policemen has also been deployed in the neighbourhood
