Kodanda opposes move to link Krish & Godavari seeks white paper

Hyderabad: Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) supremo Prof. M Kodandaram today said main purpose for separate Telangana State was for water resources and he his party was strongly opposed to linking of these rivers.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Prof. Kodandaram, along with party vice-president PL Vishweshwer Rao, he said his party leaders had a thorough discussion with water experts on the proposal to link the Krishna and Godavari rivers. But there has been a lot of criticism in the entire world on the  interlinking of rivers. Kodandaram said the amount of water flowed into Guntur District in erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh in 2014,  the same amount of water was flowing into all Telangana Districts.

Kodandaram pointed out that in the both States water distribution was unequal. He also said water distribution in Telangana State was not covering all areas and there was water scarcity in Joint Nalgonda and Warangal, Mahbhubnagar Districts. Kodandaram said there was no need to pump water from Godavari to Krishna and asked the State government as how he would “donate” Telangana water to other regions. He also cautioned the State government against Godavari water flowing into Krishna river The upper States will get rights over the water, Kodandaram said. Stating that the State government, in the name of River linkages, donating river water to other regions will be strongly opposed by his party, Kodandaram demanded that the government release a white paper on the Telangana Water Projects.
