Kolkata: 3 arrested for sexually harassing woman on moving bus

Kolkata: A shameful harassment incident in a moving bus is reported from Kolkata that took place on late Saturday night police said.

According to sources, the three accused have been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing the victim on board with the men travelling in a bus in Kolkata’s Pragati Maidan area late on Saturday night.

The incident happened at around 10 pm on Saturday, when the police heard the woman’s cry for help and stopped the moving private bus passing through the EM Bypass in the Pragati Maidan Police Station limits, a Kolkata Police official said.

When the police waylaid the bus, they found a group of men harassing the women who was screaming for help.

“They were hurling verbal abuses and were making lewd comments aimed at the woman while she was screaming for help. She was travelling from Malancha to Howrah. These men started making lewd gestures and comments after the bus reached Ghatakpur when passengers were few. When the bus driver and the conductor did not react, the woman started protesting,” the officer said.

Sources revealed the accused identified as Sheikh Pervez, Sheikh Mujibar and Sheikh Aftab employed at a leather processing plant in Ghatakpur take the same route almost everyday like the victim.

“The victim also takes the bus quite frequently and these men have targeted her for quite sometime. Last night, they were asking for the woman’s phone number and trying to befriend her,” the officer said.

The trio attempted to flee but was later caught by the police based on the complaint filed by the victim.
