HYDERABAD: The Indian Police Service (IPS) Association of Telangana condemned the comments made by TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy against Hyderabad city police commissioner, Anjani Kumar.
Earlier this week, Uttam Kumar called the latter “shameless and corrupt”.
The state Congress chief outburst and use of unparliamentary language against Mr. Anjani Kumar were prompted after his party was denied permission to stage a peaceful rally against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
In response, Congress leaders and workers decided to sit on a satyagraha for 24 hours.
The IPS fraternity, in a statement, condemns the personal attack and added, “The decision of the Commissioner of Police was taken after due consideration keeping in view the aspects of impartiality, the likelihood of disturbance to the peace and public tranquility, and for maintenance of law and order.”
The Hyderabad police have drawn flak after they rejected several applications for permissions to hold rallies but allowed a parade by the ‘communal’ RSS with lathis and horses from LB Nagar to Saroornagar.
Vociferous protests and violence led to many deaths soon after December 13, which was a Friday, President of India signed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Excluding Muslims, the CAA grants citizenship to six persecuted minorities in neighboring countries Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh which are all Muslim-majority countries.
