Leonardo DiCaprio in talks to star in ‘Nightmare Alley’

Washington: Actor Leonardo DiCaprio may soon treat his fans with a new film, as he is in negotiations to star in the upcoming film ‘Nightmare Alley’.

The film is being directed by Guillermo del Toro and is the follow-up to his Oscar-winning film ‘The Shape of Water’, reported Variety.

Toro also co-wrote the script with Kim Morgan. The upcoming film is being produced by del Toro and J. Miles Dale with TSG Entertainment. Fox Searchlight has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the film.

‘Nightmare Alley’ will be based on the novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham, which was adapted in 1947 into a film that starred Tyrone Power and Joan Blondel. The 1947 film featured Tyrone as an ambitious young con-man who teams up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the tables on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.

The film is likely to go on floors this fall as Toro is currently busy finalising the remaining roles.

After the 2017 hit film ‘The Shape of Water’ went on to win several Oscars, including best picture and director for Toro, the filmmaker decided to put a pause on picking his next directing gig, and only worked as a producer on the Searchlight movie ‘Antlers’.

DiCaprio has not been seen in a film since his Oscar-winning performance in ‘The Revenant’ in 2015.

He will be next seen in Quentin Tarantino’s next directorial ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’. The film that also features Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie centres on the Manson family murders. It will hit the theatres on July 26, this year.
