Letters to 1.05cr people to check voter names: CEO

Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. Rajath Kumar today appealed to the people of Telangana to ensure their names in electoral lists enabling themselves to exercise their franchise in the state for the forthcoming polls. Addressing a press conference at Secretariat here, Rajat Kumar stated that the Election Commission will write about 1.05 cr letters to households in the state appealing the people to check their names in the voter lists. If they failed to find names the people have to enrol as per provisions he said. The EC has so far received about 9.5 lakh applications for enrolment including 8 lakhs alone in the city. The EC will spend about Rs 50 lakhs to write letters to the people on enrolment he said.

He said that the EC has received the applications for special summary revision of voters from January 1. On Jan 25 final list of the electoral list will be published upon receiving the applications and there is no chance of deleting any sort of names. So far 6 lakhs of votes in the city limits were deleted

The process of special summary revision of voters is a continuous process and will continue till January 25. People have to enrol in the voter lists and can make corrections at the Booth Level or on CEO Portal. Writing personnel letters with paid reply card to the citizens will help give opinion or make changes and to enrol.

As many as 8.64,128 youth with 18 year age group have filled Form 6 of the EC seeking voting chance, and those whose names were deleted, voters living in foreign countries have filed 1123, for deletion 10,130 has filled, change of address within Constituency are 57,348 and change of address in other countries are 22,928 he said.

Rajat Kumar said that a meeting with political parties yesterday he asked the leaders to cooperate for voter enrolment. He denied EVMs tampering allegations as baseless and can avoid missing names upto 5 per cent. The EC will reply to all complaints and doubts related to Assembly polls.
