New Delhi: Fresh violence erupted in Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sunday evening after a ‘masked’ mob attacked students, many of whom protested the institution’s hike earlier last month.
The varsity turned into battle ground after members of the BJP’s student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) entered the premises weilding their lathis.
JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh has been reportedly hit over the eye with an iron rod.
The incident took place during a march in the varsity around 5pm. JNU registrar Pramod Kumar said in a statement, “This is an urgent message for the entire JNU community that there is a law and order situation on the campus. Masked miscreants armed with sticks are roaming around, damaging property and attacking people. The JNU Administration has called the police to maintain order.”
No help from the police have been reported yet. “No one was there to stop the “hooliganism”. I was not allowed to speak to the media. The police personnel were standing but were not doing anything. If the police is afraid, they can take out their uniform,” said Swaraj Abhiyan chief Yogendra Yadav.

Following dreadful violence at JNU, 20 students so far have been admitted at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), NDTV reported.
Students of Jamia, NLS, UoH & AMU reach Police Headquarters
Following dreadful violence, students of Jamia, NLS, UoH, AMU and other universities joined hands to extend their support for the JNU victims. Students gathered at the Police headquarters to protest against the brutality.
The reactions to this ghastly violence were almost spontaneous across many campuses in India. Groups of students came together to condemn the violence in the JNU campus.
