Man sets his 3 YO’s mother on fire over suspicion

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a three-year-old kid was forced to see his mother burn alive in front of him.

The incident is reported from him Mumbai’s Bandra where the minor kid’s father suspected his mother was in an extramarital relationship, HT reports.

The accused identified as Mohammed Akhlaq Nasim Qureshi aged 32 was arrested on Tuesday evening for the crime. He will be produced before the court on Wednesday.

According to reports, the neighbours tried to stop the accused and save 23-year-old Maryam Qureshi during the fight but could not help her.

On seeing Maryam on fire inside the accused’s house, the neighbours alerted the police.

A team of Bandra police officials rushed to the spot and took Maryam to Bhabha Hospital where she was declared brought dead on arrival.

On questioning, the accused told the officials that the couple had been married for the last five years, but the fight between them only started about three months back.

He confessed that he learnt about his wife’s extramarital affair with a man in the neighbourhood when he had gone to his native place leaving his wife and son in Mumbai.

“Since then the fights between them happened on a regular basis. Akhlaq became so suspicious that he used to doubt his wife even when she went to the market,” said a police officer from Bandra police station.

Akhlaq fought over the same issue on Monday night and in a fit of rage picked up a can of kerosene and poured it on her before setting her on fire.

“We arrested him under section 302 and 201 of Indian Penal Code and today we will produce him before the court for his police custody remand,” added the officer.
