MANUU teacher Waseem Begum passes away

Hyderabad: Prof. Waseem Begum, Professor, Department of Urdu, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), has passed away on July 2 at Citizen Hospital, Lingampally, Hyderabad at the age of 58. She is survived by her husband and son.
Prof. Waseem Begum was appointed as Assistant Regional Director, MANUU Regional Centre, New Delhi in July 2005. She was appointed as Associate Professor in July, 2013 and posted as Incharge Lucknow Campus. Later she was promoted as Professor in Department of Urdu. She has written more than five books, 15 research & 10 other publications. Before joining MANUU, she had worked with Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

Mr. Firoz Bakht Ahmed, Chancellor and Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor in their separate condolence messages described her death as a loss to Urdu and MANUU.

Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held today at 11.30 am at Conference Hall, Administrative building, MANUU Campus.
Prof. Ayub Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. M. A. Sikandar, Registrar, Teaching faculty and staff members of MANUU expressed condolences and paid homage to Prof. Waseem Begum . She was remembered as a competent teacher, researcher and good human being.
Dr. M. A. Sikandar also spoke about her association with Sahitya Academy & conveyed the condolence message received from the Secretary, Sahitya Academy, Dr. K. Srinivas Rao to the gathering.
