Mersia has become part of our life: Hamid Ansari

New Delhi: A unique cultural program depicting the journey of Urdu Elegy (Mersia) was organized at India Islamic Cultural Center, New Delhi by Ms. Kamna Prasad of Jashn-e-Bahar Trust.

In her welcome address, she told that the journey of Mersia started from Karbala and reached Kashi. She further said that Hazrat Imam Husain (AS) never wanted to wage a war.

The land of non violence, India also accepted this message with open heart.

Former Vice President of India, Mr. Hamid Ansari told that Mersia is a genre of Urdu literature which connects with the sentiments of the people.

He further told that the tradition of reciting ‘Mersia’ was started in the Deccan and reached Delhi and Lucknow. Former Speaker of Lok Sabha, Ms. Meera Kumar, former VC of Jamia Milliah, Mr. Syed Shahid Mehdi, former VC of AMU, Lt. General Zameeruddin Shah and others attended the function.
