Mohammed Shami becomes fastest Indian bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets

NEW DELHI: Mohammed Shami became the fastest Indian bowler to pick up 100 wickets during the first one-dayer against New Zealand at Napier on Wednesday.

The Bengal fast bowler reached the milestone in his 56th match in the 50-over format with the wicket of opener Martin Guptill. The record previously held by left-arm swing bowler Irfan Pathan, who had done it in 59 matches, against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2006.

While Zaheer Khan (65 matches), Ajit Agarkar (67) and Javagal Srinath (68) are the other fastest bowlers from India to complete a century of wickets in the quickest time.

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan currently leads the list, having set the record in 44 ODIs.

Ever since the speedster made a comeback in the One-day side in Australia earlier this month, he has been in terrific form for India.
