Mohammed Siraj, Sidharth Kaul called in for Australia ODIs and New Zealand Tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rested India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the India vs Australia ODI series which is around the corner. He has also been rested for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.

Mohammed Siraj the Hyderabad-based fast bowler has been called in as Bumrah’s replacement. Earlier in November 2017, he made his debut for India in the second T20I against New Zealand in Rajkot.

Sidharth Kaul, who is a successful Indian Premier League bowler, has been included in the Indian T20I squad.

The BCCI in its statement said “Keeping in mind the workload of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia. Mohammed Siraj will replace Bumrah in the squad for the Australia and New Zealand tour.”

The statement further added that “Punjab pacer Siddarth Kaul has also been drafted into the squad for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand.”

The Indian captain Virat Kohli on BCCI’s decision to rest Bumrah said “It’s important to take care of these guys especially manage workloads, that’s going to be our priority going forward. But even more so, finding three more guys who can bowl as fast as and as relentless as these guys.”

India to play three ODIs against Australia starting Saturday before travelling to New Zealand for a five-ODI and three-T20I assignment starting January 23.
