NEW DELHI: Abdul Wahab, a UAE-born Hyderabadi is still struggling to pick up pieces after he binned a bagful of cash by mistake four years ago.
Wahab has not only lost a bag with Dh100,000 that he mistakenly tossed in trash bin but everything including his job, money, passport, and visa.
Once got an award for best manager, Wahab, now lives a life in shambles.
Beginning of the catastrophic events
Wahab, who used to be a manager at the Sharjah outlet of a French restaurant chain in the United Arab Emirates would never forget March 10, 2015 that made him jobless, homeless and almost penniless.
The company in which he was working fired him without warning. The landlord evicted him for unpaid rents and the bank and the car rental company filed cases for defaulting on payments.
His visa was expired and he was considered an illegal resident. His mistake made him to spent a couple of months on a street and he survived by consuming only on instant noodles.
Between 2017 and 2018, Wahab was arrested twice and went to jail for seven months for payment default and bounced cheque cases.
He tried every government department and charity groups here, but unfortunately couldn’t avail any help from them. He also approached India’s foreign ministry to get any help. But even there he had no success.
Wahab, who was born and brought up in the UAE, never thought that he would see such harrowing days. Wahab, now lives in Abu Dhabi with his two younger brothers wished to go back to his hometown Hyderabad as he haven’t seen his ageing parents for seven years.
