New Jersey Senator Cory Booker launches 2020 Presidential campaign on Twitter

Washington: United States Democratic senator from New Jersey Cory Booker, initiated his 2020 presidential election campaign by posting a video for his supporters on Twitter, local media reported on Friday.

“We are better when we help each other,” American broadcasting channel CBS News Booker quoted Booker as saying.

“I believe that we can build a country where no one is forgotten, no one is left behind; where parents can put food on the table; where there are good paying jobs with good benefits in every neighbourhood; where our criminal justice system keeps us safe, instead of shuffling more children into cages and coffins; where we see the faces of our leaders on television and feel pride, not shame,” Booker said
The Democrat Senator is the second African American candidate to join the bid for White House, following California Senator Kamala Harris who too launched her campaign in Oklahoma on January 28.

Booker on Friday morning discussed his campaign on local radio networks with supporters, majorly comprising of the blacks and Latinos.

Booker’s announcement came on the first day of the Black-History Month, also known as African-American History Month, annually observed in Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the US, as a way to remember important people and events in the history of the African diaspora in the US.

“The history of our nation is defined by collective action; by interwoven destinies of slaves and abolitionists; of those born here and those who chose America as home; of those who took up arms to defend our country, and those who linked arms to challenge and change it,” Booker said in the video released on Friday.

The Senator, who is an alumnus of Stanford and Rhodes University in the US, is expected to visit Iowa on February 8 and then campaign in South Carolina and New Hampshire on President’s Day weekend.
