New Municipal Act to give a facelift to civic bodies: KTR

Hyderabad: IT & Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao today said the TRS Government will soon bring a new Municipal Act to achieve all-round development in civic bodies.  Through decentralization of powers and funds, the municipalities and corporations will soon get facelift, he said in the Assembly.

Replying to queries by the members in the Assembly during budget session, KT Rama Rao said that they are focusing on improving facilities in all the municipalities and corporations with better road connectivity. Infrastructure was key for fast growth and the government was now decentralizing the funds and powers. Transparency and accountability will be key in new Municipal Act, he said. 

“Our aim is to ensure that the municipalities develop on the lines of cities as migration from villages is increased much to the towns and cities during recent times. Keeping this in view, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has planned to implement new Act and bring in reforms for speedy development, he said. LED bulbs used in Municipalities reducing power bills and development works in Hyderabad are going on swift pace, he said. He also said Roads are getting repaired and addressing green issues. KCR’s brainchild Haritha haram is giving positive results by involving people and officials to increase greenery, he said.

KTR further said that drainage issue will be resolved as garbage is being lifted besides resolving drinking water issue in Hyderabad which is fifth biggest city in the country. Municipal bonds are brought in Hyderabad and completing Jawahar Nagar dumping yard capping works, and recycling of building waste in the city.
