125 cases have been book against city-based commercial stores including, Heritage Market, Ratnadeep, More Super Market, Spencers, Big Bazar, Vijetha Super Market and Mahaveer Electrical, by Sleuths of the Legal Metrology Department for violation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Legal Metrology rules.
These commercial stores were selling products in gross violation of the altered GST slabs.
The Central government has reduced GST rates on some products and completely removed it from a few other products. However, some commercial stores continue to sell them at earlier prices against the current reduced GST slabs.
On receiving several complaints from consumers regarding shopping malls and supermarkets on GST violations, the Legal Metrology Department conducted a number of raids.
