Indian origin schoolgirl drowns in swimming pool in Jeddah

JEDDAH: A 10th grade student of Indian origin drowned in a swimming pool during a community gathering in the Saudi Arabian port city.

Fida Abdul Latheef was a student at of Al-Mawarid International School and the tragic incident happened on Saturday night, the Saudi Gazette reported.

The family hails from Kozhikode from Koduvally in the South Indian state of Kerala and has been living in kingdom.

Fida had gone to the resort in Rihaily on the outskirts of Jeddah along with her family and friends.

The community gathering was organized by the Koduvally unit of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), an association of expatriates from Kerala.

She went in the deepest part of the pool and did not come out.

Fida is the daughter of Abdul Latheef Kalaranthiri is the managing director of a furniture company of Al-Sharq Furniture Est. and president of the Jeddah Koduvally chapter of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Center.

Fida is survived by mother Jesli and siblings Fayaz Muhammad, Faiha Fatima and Ayisha.

According to the school Principal K.A Abul Samad, she was excellent in her studies and was very obedient.
