146 Sri Chaitanya colleges served notices for violations: BIE

Hyderabad: Secretary of Telangana Board of Intermediate Education Ashok today refuted news reports that the board was protecting the interest of corporate colleges in the State.

Stating that the reports are baseless, Ashok said stern action would be taken against corporate colleges if they failed to follow the instructions. He said the BIE has warned the erring college management to mend their ways as students were committing suicides. “We held discussions with the managements of colleges on this issue and instructed them not to pressurize the students.

The secretary further said a meeting would be held in the Secretariat on November 7 at 4 pm under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari. The board has issued notices to 146 Sri Chaitanya colleges which lack even basic facilities. He asked the college managements to submit their replies within a fortnight, he said.

Ashok said a call center would be set up soon to receive complaints against colleges conducting Intermediate classes. A committee would also be set up to recommend changes in the Board of Intermediate Education, he said.

“About 35 hostels in Ranga Reddy, 51 in Medchal and 60 in Hyderabad belonging to Narayana and Sri Chaitanya were raided in the past 10 days. They were found violating rules, including not following academic calendar, conducting classes on Sundays and public holidays, timings, absence of counsellors and physical activity among others”, he added. There are a series of violations by the colleges and the Board has served show-cause notices and will scrap affiliation if required,” Ashok said. (NSS)
