Escambia County, Florida: A 150 kg Florida woman sat on her 9-year-old cousin as a form of punishment to discipline her, the child could not breathe and died on Saturday, police said.
64-year-old, Veronica Green Posey was arrested on the charge of homicide and cruelty toward the child. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office report said that the child was Posey’s cousin. Posey told deputies she sat on Dericka Lindsay as discipline “for being out of control”.
Posey had sit on the girl for 10 minutes, when the 9-year-old told that she could not breathe, Posey got up after sitting for an additional 2 minutes. Authorities said Posey called 911 and started CPR on the child when she found her not breathing.
Grace Joan Smith, 69, and James Edmund Smith are charged with child neglect, the arrest report said. Grace Smith had called her niece, Posey, to her house for disciplining the girl.
As per the report, she told investigators that Posey hit the girl with a ruler and metal pipe before Lindsay ran to an armchair.
Posey got released on Monday on $125,000 bail, while the Smiths remained in jail.
