2 cops injured as truck rams into PCR van

New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) Two Delhi Police constables were seriously injured by a speeding truck after it rammed into a PCR van in Outer Delhi’s Alipur Road here this morning.

The incident comes close on the heels of two persons including a policeman being killed by a speeding truck three days ago in South Delhi.

Police said the incident was reported around 5.30 AM when constables Dharampal and Roshal Lal were patrolling near Bhaktawarpur village. The impact of the incident was such that the PCR van was flung to the roadside.

According to police, the truck was at a high speed and coming from Rohtak Road and when both Dharampal and Roshan signaled it to stop, the driver rammed the truck against the vehicle (PCR van).

Both the constables were injured severely. The truck driver then reversed the vehicle and sped away.

As the truck driver fled the spot, Dharampal informed the Police Control Room about the incident. Police are also investigating if the truck, suspected to be involved in transporting pit sand, was part of the sand mafia operating in Haryana.

Police said a case has been registered against the driver under IPC sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
