New Delhi: Two youths were charred to death while another sustained critical burns in a fire that broke out at a helmet repairing unit in east Delhi’s Jwala Nagar area today, following which an inquiry has been initiated.

The deceased have been identified as Neeraj (20) and Deepak (24). The injured, Jeetu (18), has been admitted to GTB Hospital with around 95 per cent burn injuries, said a police officer.

The fire was reported around 4.30 PM, following which several fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took them around 45 minutes to douse the flames, said a fire official.

The police have registered a case of negligence against unnamed persons in connection with the incident, DCP (East) B S Gurjar said.

“Compensation as per rules will be given to the family of the deceased. Inquiry has been ordered to see if the factory which caught fire was being unauthorisedly run.
