2 killed and 17 injured at nightclub in Florida

FORT MYERS: Two people were killed and 17 injured in a shooting during a ‘teen night’, at a nightclub in Fort Myers in western Florida early on Monday, police said.

One of those hurt is only 12 years old. The Fort Myers police department said in a statement that. “several victims suffering from gunshot wounds.”

Police have detained three people for questioning. It isn’t clear if more people are involved and the area was “deemed safe” although roads in the vicinity were closed as the investigation continues.

The injured are shifted to Lee Memorial hospital. Four people still remain in hospital, while one is in a critical condition and another is in a serious condition.

One of the witness says that she heard around 30 gunshots from the scene and believes that these came from a number of weapons.

The incident took place in Fort Myers after six weeks when a gunman opened fire at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12, where 49 people were killed. It is the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.
