Border guards were deployed along the fence after warnings were issued that a mass breach attempt could take place, but they were taken by surprise when at 6 a.m. (local time) the migrants managed to cross the official checkpoint in the region of Ceuta, reports Efe news.

Although official figures are yet to be made available by the immigration office, it is estimated that around 200 people formed part of the group that managed to enter Spain’s North African enclave.
