2020 hope to be a Child Labour free Telangana says Cyberabad CP VC Sajjanar

Hyderabad: Operation Smile an initiative by Cyberabad Police have completed its one year and celebrated its 1st anniversary on Wednesday at Cyberabad Police Commissionerate. Cyberabad police, under ‘Operation Smile’ or ‘Muskaan’ rescued 581 children till date.

On the eve of its one year anniversary the Cyberabad Commissionerate has launched a logo for Women and Children Safety. During the programme Women and Children Safety Wing (WCSW) Deputy Commissioner of Police C. Anasuya gave a presentation on the performance of Smile team and the data on rescued children.

According to Women and Children Safety Wing:

  • Around 581 children were rescued under the ‘Operation Smile’ (368-boys, 213-Girls)
  • 543 (339 boys, 204 girls) handed over to rescue home, 38 (29 boys, 9 girls) handed over to their parent.
  • 200-begging children, 71 Rag-picking, 299, Child Labour, 5 missings, and 1 child marriage was rescued.

In 2018 to till date the Smile Team conducted recce and collected information about the children who were working, begging, working in Brick kiln in rural areas and also in the city. Team members observed and took photos and videos of the children while they were working. A team consisting of Smile Team, SHE Team and DCPU Ranga Reddy district went to the spot and rescued children. All the children were under the age of 14 years. They were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, Ranga Reddy district and placed in Shelter Home. Moreover, the team has also registered FIRs to convictions.

Cyberabad CP VC Sajjanar said, ‘Operation Smile’ initiative was started in 2018 with the motto of Child is meant to learn not to earn. And this operation will be continued throughout the year. The exclusive vehicle has been initiated for 24 hours of service to rescue children. Three Smile Teams working in three zones of Cyberabad Commissionerate. The aim of these teams is to prevent child trafficking and rescue children from persons who engage them in begging, trafficking and other anti-social activities and to trace missing children.

Commissioner further says Cyberabad police is operating full-fledged Bharosa centres. To protect the children from sexual abuses in schools with the Balamithra initiative is started and is doing exceptionally well. Aasara for the rehabilitation of the old age people and for a dignified life of the senior citizens. I hope that by next year there would be no Operation Smile teams would work in Cyberabad.

Cyberabad Traffic DCP SM Vijay Kumar said rescuing 581 children in a year is a great thing by Cyberabad police. Police officials are recognising and protecting the kids under Juvenile justice care and protection act.

(CWC) Child Welfare Committee, Chairperson, Mrs Padmavathi said, “If one girl is saved that is equal to one generation saved, till now 300 girls were saved and the team is committed to the cause”
