Srinagar: A Chennai tourist died on Monday evening in Srinagar’s hospital after being hit by a stone during clash between security forces and protesters in early hours on Monday. 22-year-old R. Thirumani was hit on his head by the stone while he was travelling along with his family between Srinagar and Kashmir’s premier resort of Gulmarg.

A clash had occurred between stone-pelters and the security forces at Narabal on Monday morning. The family had come under the stone pelting, said SSP Budgam. “Thirumani was critically injured in his face. He was rushed to the hospital where he passed in the evening,” he said as per a report by Deccan Chronicle.

Apart from the 22-year-old, four other persons including a girl from Handwara area of frontier Kupwara district were injured in the incident, said police sources.

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who visited the hospital, met with family members of the deceased to offer her condolences. She also apologized for the incident.

The former CM Omar Abdullah also condemned the stone pelters in a tweet. “We’ve killed a tourist by throwing stones at the vehicle he was travelling in. Let’s try and wrap our heads around the fact that we stoned a tourist, a guest, to death while we glorify these stone pelters & their methods,” he posted.
