22-YO Indian origin techie contesting for California’s Governor

Hyderabad: A 22-year-old Indian Origin IT professional brought up in America is contesting for California’s governor against Democrat governor Jerry Brown, who served two four year terms in California.

Shubham Goel’s parents hailing from Uttar Pradesh are also IT professionals in the US. Shubham took the campaign to the next level making use of Virtual reality technology in his campaign.

Speaking to TOI, the young techie contesting for California’s governor says: “I think virtual reality technology will change the world and solve educational issues in California.”

Shubham’s mother Karuna Goel hails from Meerut while his father, Vipul Goel, runs his own software company hails from Lucknow.

Shubham lives in Danville in California and has completed his graduation from University of California. He studied economics and cinema and had started working from October for a virtual reality company.

Speaking of his contest Shubham has his own reasons to enter politics. He said: “I was born and raised in California. New-age tech can fix issues. I believe I am the first politician to campaign in virtual reality. There are many innovators out there, but they are not as involved in politics as they should be.”

He added, “I think we need independent voices and it’s time we use technology in politics and get the money out.”

When asked what does his administration plans, the young techie responded “There is much corruption,” and that “I will implement virtual reality in the public education system and this will bring down cost,” he said.

“I also want to raise representation and awareness for the Indian community in decision-making,” he added. “I am running for governor to encourage the young to hope and have a conviction to make a change rather than money and fame.”

Shubham has been delivering his lectures across several schools in different cities which included Santa Monica, San Francisco, Merced, Bravas, Walnut Creek and Cambria to name a few.

When asked on how does he fancy his chances in the election? He responded saying “I am getting a lot of support.”
