3 Cops were booked for demanding bribe

Navi Mumbai: Three constables from Vashi police station has booked for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.

According to a report from TOI Sanjay Agone, Santosh Awaghade and Pradeep Rathod demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from the proprietor of a private firm which edits movies.

An FIR has been registered against the 3 constables under section 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Navi Mumbai ACB deputy superintendent of police Ramesh Chavan said, “On September 19, the trio threatened the proprietor for legal action by claiming that the rental agreement of his firm was not for commercial purpose.

After negotiations, the cops settled on Rs 1 lakh and took Rs 60,000 from the complainant on the same day. The complainant approached the ACB office, when the constables repeatedly demanded the remaining Rs 40,000.

“We attempted to nab the trio while accepting the Rs 40,000, but probably they got to know about the trap and never accepted the amount. We have detained Agone and Awaghade, while Rathod is untraceable. We will have to seek permission to arrest the constables,” Chavan said.
