DELHI: A man named Shyam Yadav killed a married woman who was 18 years older than him after she rejected his marriage proposal in outer Delhi’s Nangloi, the police said on Thursday.
The accused and the victim worked in the shoe factory and are a native of Pansalwa in Madhubani district of Bihar. The accused allegedly fell in love with her and wanted to marry a 45-year-old Madhuri.
The woman left her job after sensing Yadav’s desperation but this did not put an end of her ordeal as the accused started following her and eventually stabbed her to death on Wednesday.
Police said that the officials of Nangloi police station were informed regarding stabbing of a woman on Wednesday, following which they rushed to the spot.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Seju Kuruvilla, stated that the woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. The woman’s daughter in her statement told the police that she was killed in front of her by the accused.
A case was registered based on her statement and an investigation was taken up, he said. The police received a tip-off that the accused would come at Shiv Bux Park in Nangloi and the accused was arrested from the spot and the knife used in the crime was recovered, Kuruvilla added.
A case of murder has been booked and further investigation is underway, police said.
