In a crisis that is becoming more severe with each passing day, almost millions of youngsters enrol themselves into professional courses in a hope that they will get a good corporate job but many fail to bag a job after completing their course.

On September 26, the Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretariat sought applications for the posts of sweepers and sanitary worker and a total of 4,607 applications were received for just 14 vacancies, including from the Employment Exchange.

The only qualification was that the aspiring candidates should be fit and healthy and not physically disabled. The minimum age limit was 18 years completed and the maximum age differed.

Due to the severe crisis of jobs, people with professional qualifications such as B.Tech, M.Tech and MBA, postgraduates as well as graduates are in the race to bag the post of sweepers and sanitary workers in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Secretariat.

The students are forced to opt for any job even if they need to change their field since they find no vacancies available in their respective field. Many Diploma holders too are fighting it out for the posts of sweeper (10 vacancies) and sanitary worker (4 vacancies).

Out of 4,607 applications, 677 applicants were rejected while the rest has fulfilled the eligibility criteria.
