Kintampo: At least 50 people were burned to death on Friday after two buses collided near Kintampo town of Ghana. One bus caught fire while the other was mangled, said Ghana Police Service spokesman David Eklu.

“At least 60 people have been confirmed dead and one of the buses caught fire with the other seriously mangled,” the official said.

According to CNN, Eklu said the accident took place on Friday at around 1.30 am when two long-distance buses collided head-on on the main highway leading from Kintampo to Tamale.

The victims were shifted to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital and Kintampo Government Hospital for treatment. The buses were each carrying around 50 passengers, he added.

Soon after the incident, firefighters and emergency services arrived at the spot to carry out rescue operations.
The cause of the collision is yet to be determined. However, according to the local media one of the drivers lost control over his vehicle after falling asleep.
