519 litre ‘desi’ liquor seized in Rajouri

Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir): Police seized 519 litres of liquor and destroyed 585 kilograms of ‘lahaan’ on Sunday in different areas of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police Yougal Manhas said that different teams of police carried out the crackdown to curb the illegal act of preparation and sale of ‘desi’ liquor in different parts of Rajouri.

A team headed by Station House Officer (SHO), Rajouri, Ajaz Haider raided a house in Dhangri village and unearthed two working stills being used for the preparation of ‘desi’ liquor. 515 ‘litre’ of fully prepared ‘desi’ liquor was recovered from the spot and 500 kg ‘lahaan’ was destroyed on the spot.

Besides this, one gas cylinder, two working stills, three plastic barrels, and other allied material were seized from the spot. Accused Chander Parkash, a resident of Dhangri, was also arrested and an FIR was registered.

Another team of police headed by SHO Dharamsal Amit Singh raided the house of Kamlesh Rani, a resident of lower Siot, and recovered four litres illicit liquor with approximately 60 kilograms of ‘lahaan’ which was destroyed. Rani was arrested on the spot.

Similarly, a team of police headed by In-charge PP Teryath and Sub-Inspector Habib Ul Rehman raided near the houses of Sandeep Kumar and Channo Devi, residents of Keri Teryath, and recovered 25 kilograms of ‘lahaan’ from both the houses which were destroyed while the material used in the preparation of liquor was seized.
