Hyderabad: The State Government is initiating steps for distribution of 94 lakh sarees for women of all ages for the coming Bathukamma festival. As per the wishes of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, action is being taken to complete the weaving of the sarees by coming August.
The Government has already placed order for supply of the required material for preparation of the sarees. The sarees were proposed to be made in 50 colours and shades, to meet the requirements of women of different ages. As many as 20,000 looms would take up the work of weaving the sarees. Of the total, Ten lakh sarees will be of eight yards lenghth each, as women in North Telangana use such sarees. The other 84 lakh sacrees will be of six yards each.
It may be mentioned that the KCR Government has been distributing sarees free of cost to women in the State for the Bathukamma festival during the past two years. This is ensuring work to weavers in the State, besides making the women happy on receiving the festival gift from the Government
