Hyderabad: Nizam’s £35 million deposit case: Judgment enters final phase

Hyderabad: The legal battle of Nizam’s £35 million amount deposited in a bank in London has reached the final stage in a court in London.

It may be mentioned that the Nizam of Hyderabad had transferred £1,007,940 in 1948 to the bank account of High Commissioner of Pakistan in 1948 after the formation of Pakistan. This amount has exceeded £35 million now.

It is understood that the legal heirs of the Nizam enjoy the support of Govt. of India whereas Govt. of Pakistan is claiming the right of this money.

The partner of Law firm Withersworldwide, Mr. Paul Hewitt told that Nizam VIII and his brother has been awaiting to get this amount for many decades. Govt. of Pakistan seized this amount claiming its right on it.

Both the parties have preferred their claims. It is expected that in the next six weeks, its verdict would be pronounced.

The judge has to decide who is the legal heir of this amount? At the time of bifurcation of India and Pakistan, Nizam of Hyderabad was in a fix as to merge Hyderabad state into Pakistan or join Indian Union.
