ABVP protests in JNU over event on Afzal Guru

New Delhi : The students affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest outside the office of the Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University ( JNU) here on Wednesday to vent their ire over a programme describing the execution of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru as ‘judicial killing’.

The varsity witnessed violent clashes between two students groups last night over this programme following which the police personnel were deployed on duty to maintain the law and order situation in the campus.

The incident was followed by the cultural evening organised at the Sabarmati Dhaba by ten students, who were earlier members of the Democratic Students’ Union (DSU).

While the organisers originally got the permission to hold this event, it was withdrawn after the ABVP complained to the administration. The ABVP had called for a protest outside the 24×7 dhaba opposite the venue, against the “anti-national” activity in the campus.

The ABVP has also demanded that the ten students behind the event must be rusticated with immediate effect. (ANI)
