Accident due to fog kills 4 in Punjab

Chandigarh: At least four persons were killed and nearly 10 others injured in an accident between a Punjab Roadways bus and a long-body truck due to dense fog in Punjab’s Ferozepur district on Tuesday morning, police said.

The incident took place near Kariya village on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road in Ferozepur, around 250 km from here.

Poor visibility in the area caused the head-on collision, a police officer said. He said that the bus driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when the accident happened.

Police had earlier put the number of deceased at eight.

The injured have alleged that the authorities did not reach on time to rescue and take the victims to hospital.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has announced Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia each for the kin of those killed in the tragic collision between a truck and a Punjab Roadways bus.

He directed the district civil and police administration to extend all possible help to the family members of the victims, according to an official spokesperson.The drivers of both the vehicles were among those killed in the accident.
