Afganistan: 16 killed after gunmen storm private construction company

Nangarhar: At least sixteen people were killed and nine wounded after unidentified gunmen attacked a private construction company in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan on Wednesday, reported TOLO News.

Five gunmen attacked the construction company around 5 a.m. local time. Two attackers detonated their explosives and three others were killed in a clash with security forces, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province, Attaullah Khogyani said.

Khogyani said that 16 employees of the construction company ‘EBE’ were killed and nine people were wounded in the attack. Two of the wounded are in critical condition.

The clash ended after at least seven hours. According to Khogyani, during the clearance operation security forces defused a vehicle full of explosives and two suicide vests of the attackers.

He added that the private company carries out construction activities at Jalalabad airport.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
