Afghanistan: 3 IS terrorists killed in US airstrike

Kabul: At least three terrorists from the Islamic State (IS) terror group were killed in an airstrike launched by the American forces in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province.

In a statement, the Afghan military forces said that the three terrorists were planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Payin area of Deh Bala district when the incident occurred, Khaama Press reported.

Afghanistan media has reported, time and again, that terrorist groups such as the IS and Taliban often use IEDs and other bombs to target civilians and government officials in the war-torn country.

Earlier this month, a report by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) stated that the leading cause of civilian deaths and injuries from the armed conflict remained the combined use of suicide and non-suicide IEDs by anti-government elements.

The report added how the use of suicide IEDs increased in frequency and in lethality, causing record high civilian casualty levels in the first three quarters of 2018.
