Afrazul Killing: Rajasthan seeks Google help to remove hate videos

JAIPUR: Rajasthan government on Monday told the Supreme Court that it has asked the online search engine Google to remove hate videos uploaded by Shambhu Lal Regar, the man who is accused of hacking the 45-year-old Mohammed Afrazul and set his body on fire in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district on December 6, 2017.

In the videos, after the barbaric act, Regar was seen keeping up an inflammatory communal ranting that he did it to stop Love Jihad, a term publicised to refer to Muslim men marrying Hindu women.

The murder was recorded on camera by the 14-year-old nephew of Shambhulal and a series of videos of the crime was also uploaded on the social media which invited a nationwide outrage.

Some time is required to remove the hate videos uploaded by Raigar since it has been hosted by multiple websites, said the Raj government to top court.

The top court Bench comprises of Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and Ajay Rastogi asked Rajasthan government to file an affidavit about the steps taken by it to remove the videos including a video uploaded from within the jail premises

The court adjourned the matter for further hearing.

The top court had earlier termed the video depicting the lynching of Khan as “horrendous” and expressed concern over its widespread circulation on social media.
