After RGIA, Six new ‘Airports’ to come up in Telangana

Hyderabad: The state government has roped in the Airports Authority of India to develop six new airports in the Telangana state.

The AAI will be conducting techno-feasibility studies, both at existing airstrips and for greenfield airports and is being paid Rs 4.5 crore consultancy fee by the government, TOI reports.

“The idea is to have airports at all six places and once the techno-feasibility studies are completed, there will be more movement on the proposal,” a state government official told.

Speaking of the project details, the infrastructure and investment department has already sanctioned Rs 1.06 crore to start the techno-feasibility study.

Warangal, Peddapalle, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Khammam and Mahbubnagar are the places were airports shall be coming up.

Manmoor in Warangal, Peddapalle at Basantnagar, Jakranpally in Nizamabad and Adilabad, Kothagudem in Khamam are the proposed areas for upcoming airports.

However, there’s a technical issue for the proposed airport in Warangal as no airport is to function within 150 km radius of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) as per an agreement the airport developers GMR had with the then united Andhra Pradesh government.

An initiative has already begun to resolve issues connected with the developing of these new airports.

The Land has already been identified in districts, where the proposed airports are coming up.

Last year, CM K Chandrasekhar Rao announced that 750 acres of land had been identified for the airport in Basantnagar in Peddapalle while 850 acres of land has been identified for the airport in Nizamabad and nearly 350 acre of land has been identified for the airport in Adilabad.
