Ahmed Shehzad likely to be recalled for World T20

Karachi: Pakistan opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad is likely to be recalled in the national squad for next week’s World Twenty20 in India, following a complete failure of the top-order in the ongoing Asia Cup.

Earlier, the 24-year-old was dropped for the Asia Cup and World T20 due to his inconsistency, but a strong comeback in the recently held Pakistan Super League has put the explosive batsman back in contention for selection.

Selectors were forced to rethink their decision after top-order batsmen, especially Khurram Manzoor struggled to get a good start for Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

According to the Express Tribune, a PCB official said that Ahmed had been asked to submit his passport for the World T20, adding that the batsman’s inclusion in the T20 format’s pinnacle event will be made official soon.

Pakistan were dumped out of the Asia Cup after suffering a five-wicket loss to Bangladesh on Wednesday. The hosts will now face India in the summit clash on Sunday.

Shehzad remains just 59 runs short of completing 1,000 runs in the T20 format. (ANI)
